Day thirty five

I left the excellent B&B hotel in Castellón at 10:00 this morning and headed for Valencia. Initially it was easy going until around midday when a headwind made itself known. What was otherwise a fairly easy and straight forward route seemed to drag on but I finally reached Valencia by early evening and found a campsite.

After two days travel, mostly without using a GPS navigation app., I had returned to using Maps.me to guide me to Valencia. It redeemed itself for the most part, though it did give me a few anxious moments, once taking me through roadworks that looked suspect.

It was a nightmare trying to get the tent pegs in again this evening but I borrowed a hammer from reception which promptly bent half the pegs. However this campsite was not for tents and they had made an exception for me so I can't complain. My Italian and Dutch neighbours came to the rescue with a pasta dish and beers.

Tomorrow I will have to decide which route to take next. I am told there are some beautiful places around here, not to mention Valencia itself. I am still very torn as to which route to take as in the end it's swings and roundabouts.

On the way to the local supermercado this evening I noticed my rear tyre had deflated. It was not completely flat but almost. I could see no puncture damage and pumped the tyre up again. The pressure held so it would seem the self sealing puncture fluid had done its job. I will only know how well for sure tomorrow after pumping it back up to its full pressure. A puncture may well delay my start tomorrow.

  1. Thank goodness for good neighbors, they are worth their weight in gold. Sounds great beers and pasta just what you need 😄
Well you have managed to pedal all the way to Valencia, 👏🏻 👏🏻 without any problems with your bike 🚲 so having your first (maybe) puncture is a small matter.
Not far to go now Jan, you are more than three quarters of the way.

Good luck and hopefully easy pedalling!

    1. Yep, looks like a slow puncture in the rear tyre as it is totally flat this morning. Will try and pump it up again and get to a bike shop 7km away. Otherwise I will have to put in an inner tube but do not fancy that as the bike has hydraulic disc brakes and it can get complicated. Still there's always a first time.😉

    2. Luckily you are in Valencia, and you should find a good selection of bike shops there 🤗 ……… it would have been a different story if you had been camping in the wilderness! 😱

    3. Well I do have a spare inner tube and also puncture repair kit so no matter where I am I could fix such a problem but it could take me half a day and a nervous breakdown.😂
