Day twenty five
The first campsite in Catalonia, Spain is vast, super quiet and reasonably priced with plenty of good places to pitch a tent. I ended up pitching mine in the dark last night, but despite that the ground was good and I slept pretty well. I awoke around 07:00 and felt that I should take a rest day here as it seemed to be an ideal place. After washing some clothes I visited the local village for supplies. The sleepy village has a tiny Tabac store with almost everything you need while camping, even Hellmann's mayo. I came away with some Heinz baked beans and a tin of mussels along with my usual bits and pieces.
The buildings in the quiet village close to the campsite are chiefly constructed of stone rather than bricks and it is a very peaceful place to walk around and completely litter free.
Back at the Capmany campsite there is a huge inviting swimming pool and no one in it, but I learn that tomorrow it will be emptied, presumably as it is now out of season. The weather is changeable but my clothes soon dry, which has not been the case over the past three days due to high humidity. Today I also need to give my bike a service, checking tyre pressures, oiling bits and tightening any loose nuts. After that I will have a siesta and hopefully that will set me up for the next leg, Girona, Barcelona. My average speed and daily kilometers has dropped over the last days and I am sure that has been mainly due to poor sleep.
Early evening and despite a few drops of rain in the afternoon it has remained mainly warm and dry if rather cloudy. Possibly the nicest campsite so far, a bit more expensive than Camping de la Saone (day 10) which was equally as good. It's a very peaceful place, away from traffic noise and many of the bird calls are new to me, though I have no idea what birds they are.
I had a long chat with an English couple from Preston today and last night I was treated to several beers, courtesy of a young Dutch couple, who were also tenting, albeit with a car. There is no restaurant here so my evening meal was 'smashed' potatoes and baked beans, cooked and mixed together in a pot, followed by a cherry yogurt. I think I am addicted to peanut M&Ms now, probably because I need the protein, well that's my excuse anyway. Clearly not much happened today and as a rest day that's how it should be. This has probably been the most relaxing place so far but tomorrow I will have to move on.
